Decks, fences and retaining walls

Soft boards and wobbly rails, posts rotted at the ground line, palings blown off in a storm, a bank that needs holding back, or a new deck to make the most of the sun. Salt air and Northland rain get into timber at the posts first. Often the posts can be replaced and the rest saved, which is a fraction of a rebuild. If it's borderline you'll see both numbers and choose.

How a deck or fence job goes
  1. Photo and rough sizeFence length or deck size from a phone photo is usually enough. Anything structural we come and look under it.
  2. Repair or rebuild, priced both waysMaterials, labour, old timber gone. One fixed number for each option.
  3. Booked and builtFence repairs are a half day. New decks and retaining walls a few days, and we'll say how many.
  4. Done and tidiedSanded or stained if you want it, offcuts and old timber gone.
How deck and fence pricing works

Depends on size, height, timber and how much of the existing structure can be saved. One fixed price before we start, and we'll flag if a deck or retaining wall needs council consent.

Does it need consent?

Low decks and most fences don't. Decks more than 1.5m off the ground and retaining walls over 1.5m or holding up a driveway can. We'll tell you before quoting.

Can you save the existing fence or deck?

Often. If the boards and rails are sound and it's the posts that have gone, we replace the posts and re-hang. Much cheaper.

Do you stain or paint?

Yes, if you want it done at the same time. Quoted separately so you can decide.
